Finished this chilling tale yesterday, making it the first book I’ve completed in the new year. Or does that not count since I read 90% of it last month? Either way, I’m a big fan of Lindqvist’s previous two books, Let the Right One In and Handling the Undead, and this third novel is right up there with the others for me. While the story starts off a bit slow, it picks up speed around the middle which leads up to the roller coaster free-fall plummet during the final scenes. The crescendo at the end is fully worth the time it takes to get there, and Lindqvist is such a master at creating frightening and disturbing imagery, I think I’ll still have goosebumps long after putting this one back on the shelf.
I’m looking forward to Lindqvist’s next work, but I might take a breather and read something a little less scary first!
